In memory of A.I. Rusanov

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that on May 6, 2026, not only Russian but also global scientific community suffered a grave loss. Anatoly Ivanovich Rusanov, an outstanding scientist, Full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Professor Emeritus of St. Petersburg State University, passed away.
Anatoly Ivanovich was a world-renowned scientist in the field of physical and colloid chemistry, the founder of the scientific school of colloid chemistry and thermodynamics of surface phenomena, one of the leading scientific schools in the Russian Federation.
In addition to his scientific achievements, Anatoly Ivanovich made an enormous contribution to the development of the chemical community, serving for many years as President of the D.I. Mendeleev Russian Chemical Society, and later as Vice President and Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch.
For many years, Anatoly Ivanovich served as Editor-in-Chief of one of the oldest chemical journals in our country, the Russian Journal of General Chemistry (Журнал общей химии), as well as the Colloid Journal (Коллоидный журнал).
Anatoly Ivanovich served for many years as Chairman of the Chemical Thermodynamics and Thermochemistry Section of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Scientific Council for Physical Chemistry. Having chaired the Organizing Committee of numerous conferences on chemical thermodynamics, Anatoly Ivanovich contributed greatly to the subsequent resumption of the RCCT conference in the Russian Federation.
Anatoly Ivanovich served science selflessly and devotedly, dedicating his entire life to it and nurturing generations of talented researchers, carefully preserving and enhancing the finest traditions of the physical chemistry scientific schools of the Leningrad and St. Petersburg State Universities. Anatoly Ivanovich left us a rich scientific legacy. Brilliant in their content, as well as in the sophistication and rigor of their presentation, his lectures and works left no one indifferent…
